Science Fiction: The 101 Best Novels: 1985–2010

: I like book reviews and lists of best novels, as a follower of my reviews probably noticed, so I couldn’t resist when this collection made my radar.

50 Years of Doctor Who

: My daughter is an ultimate Doctor Who fan and is insisting we visit the Dr. Who Experience when we visit London next June (as a side trip to Cardiff, Wales). She’s also converted me from a casual watcher to the guy on the aircraft with the Doctor Who ringtone. You can imagine how excited she was when we came across this infographic timeline.

Battle of the Arch Spin-Offs

: According to Distrowatch, there are eleven “distributions” “based” on Arch Linux. I use “distributions” in quotes, because some are far less of a distribution than others and “based” gets quotes because some are so based that they are really Arch Linux in a poor disguise…

Bye Bye Ubuntu

: No Ubuntu for Christmas Bye Bye Ubuntu 1.91 KB Yesterday, after evangelizing Ubuntu for years and running Ubuntu on my parents desktop since 2009, I finally “relieved” them by giving them Windows 7 as a gift.

Joining The Arch Community: Why Arch Linux Matters

: I kept hearing about Arch Linux from time to time. Every time I gathered courage to try Arch, I would be lost in the amazingly great Arch wiki. There is so much information there that at times it’s intimidating – it’s hard to find what you are looking for.

Why I migrated to Arch Linux

: First, yes, I am well aware that this is an ubuntu-related blog, monitored on planet ubuntu, etc… This is not a “XYZ is better than ubuntu” post, but rather a “Consider XYZ too” post. Anyways, going to the topic of this post, I have had a very pleasant experience with ubuntu until 11.10.

NoPriv.py – Easy IMAP email backup to HTML archive.

: NoPriv.py is a python script to backup any IMAP capable email account to a HTML archive, nicely browsable, instead of weird folders (Maildir), one huge file (mbox), only needing a web browser to view (thunderbird) and no propritary code, so you can make sure I won’t steal your password.

feross/md5-password-cracker.js · GitHub

: This was an experiment to see if using HTML5 Web Workers to parallelize CPU-bound tasks is practical. This program spawns several Web Workers (JavaScript threads) in order to crack an MD5 password hash.

sslh – ssl/ssh multiplexer

: sslh accepts connections on specified ports, and forwards them further based on tests performed on the first data packet sent by the remote client. Probes for HTTP, SSL, SSH, OpenVPN, tinc, XMPP are implemented, and any other protocol that can be tested using a regular expression, can be recognised.
